History
The BodyTalk System was created by Dr. John Veltheim, an Australian chiropractor, acupuncturist, philosopher, and author. John was the principal of the Brisbane College of Acupuncture and Natural Therapies for several years. His extensive post graduate studies include: applied kinesiology, bioenergetic therapy, osteopathy, sports medicine, counseling and comparative philosophy, and theology.

World Wide Focus
As of January 2009, there were instructors teaching in 38 countries with translations in 15 languages. The International BodyTalk Association (IBA) www.bodytalksystem.com is located in Sarasota, Florida, United States and has thousands of professional members worldwide. To offer support for BodyTalk practitioners abroad, an additional branch is operating in Germany, while such distant regions as Brazil, South Africa and the Far East are in line for additional IBA branches in the near future.

Broadening the Scope
The BodyTalk system is continuously evolving through research by Dr Veltheim and the academic committee of the IBA. The application of BodyTalk has expanded well beyond the usual scope of healthcare, proving to be effective in a wide range of applications such as sports and other performance applications, animal health, plant care and crop improvement and ecological repair.

Research
The International BodyTalk Foundation, established in 2005 for research and education in the BodyTalk System, has a twofold mission. One branch promotes independent scientific studies to demonstrate and document the efficacy of the BodyTalk System as an effective health care and health maintenance modality.
The second branch is designed to fund outreach projects to bring BodyTalk Access, a one-day program to teach anyone five of the most commonly used BodyTalk techniques for daily health maintenance, to neighborhoods and regions around the world where access to basic affordable health care is limited.
